Calculate tip and split bill

Example: Split a $100 bill with an 18% tip among 4 people

Enter the amount you want to use as the tip base.

Enter a percentage such as 15, 18, or 20.

Use 1 if you are not splitting the bill.

Quick tip:

How to calculate a tip

Multiply the bill amount by the tip percentage written as a decimal. Add the tip to the bill for the total, then divide the total by the number of people when splitting the bill equally.

Tip calculator formulas
Tip amount = bill × (tip percentage ÷ 100)
Total bill = bill + tip amount
Total per person = total bill ÷ number of people

For a $100 bill and an 18% tip, the tip is $18 and the total is $118. If four people split that total equally, each person pays $29.50.

Tip base: The calculator uses the bill amount you enter. Depending on your preference or local custom, this may be the pre-tax subtotal or the after-tax total.

Examples

Tip 20% on a $50 bill

Tip: $50 × 0.20 = $10

Total: $50 + $10 = $60

Split a $100 bill with an 18% tip among 4 people

Tip: $100 × 0.18 = $18

Total: $100 + $18 = $118

Per person: $118 ÷ 4 = $29.50

Tip 15% on a $72.40 bill

Tip: $72.40 × 0.15 = $10.86

Total: $72.40 + $10.86 = $83.26
